On June 29, 2026, the Faculty of Chemistry at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin hosted the public defense of the doctoral dissertation by Agnieszka Myka, M.A., a senior specialist in the Fertilizers Research Group at Łukasiewicz – New Chemical Syntheses Institute.

The dissertation titled “The Use of Thermal Analysis Methods in the Study of Potential Raw Materials for the Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry and Products Derived Therefrom” was prepared in the field of exact and natural sciences, within the discipline of chemical sciences. As part of this study, the impact of two additives—polyhalite and flue gas desulfurization gypsum—on the safety of processes related to the production, storage, and transport of ammonium nitrate (V) (AN)-based fertilizers was evaluated using thermal analysis methods.

A key component of the doctoral dissertation was research into the potential use of polyhalite as an additive in high-nitrogen fertilizers based on ammonium nitrate(V). The aim was to evaluate the effect of this raw material on the physicochemical properties of fertilizers and to analyze its potential for use in connection with the planned exploitation of polyhalite deposits in Poland. The results indicate that polyhalite may be a promising component of compound fertilizers. The research expands knowledge regarding its potential applications and sets the direction for further research. The results obtained are significant both scientifically and practically for the development of innovative fertilizers.
