Researchers from the Łukasiewicz Research Network – New Chemical Syntheses Institute have begun work on a European research project titled 4Sir2 Smoothy: Building a Healthy Drink Ecosystem to Prevent Childhood Obesity.
The project, with the acronym 4Sir2, is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program and brings together 16 partners from 9 countries, including universities, research institutes, agricultural organizations and food producers. The project is coordinated by the Pro-Academy Research and Innovation Center.
The goal of the project is to develop a healthy functional drink – 4Sir2 Smoothy – for overweight children. The drink will use grape or apple juice as a base and components derived from grape processing byproducts (such as resveratrol), which can activate genes that regulate metabolism and help fight obesity.
On September 11-12, 2025, Łukasiewicz – INS took part in a kick-off meeting to launch the project, organized by the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) and the Pro-Academy Research and Innovation Center.
