Feedstock Purification - Hydrogenation of Organic Sulfur Compounds
HDS catalysts: PKH-3, PKH-3/1 series
Application
The PKH series catalysts are designed for hydrogenation of organic sulfur compounds in hydrocarbon feedstocks (natural gas, naphtha, LPG) to convert them into hydrogen sulfide which is efficiently removed from the process gas by chemisorption on a PSC zinc oxide sorbent and/or PSMC copper-zinc oxide sorbent
Characteristics
Alumina supported Ni-Mo (PKH-3) and Co-Mo (PKH-3/1) catalysts are active in sulfide form and thus their sulfidation is required at the initial stage of operation. The advantage of the PKH-3 catalyst (Ni-Mo) is definitely its high hydrogenation activity and, at the same time, a relatively low activity for strongly exothermic reactions of carbon oxides methanation, which in case of some feedstocks reduces the risk of an excessive temperature increase. PKH series catalysts are also characterized by excellent mechanical properties.

Diameter (D) [mm] | 2 ÷ 4 |
Advantages
- thermal shock resistance
- high mechanical strength
- stable and low pressure drop
- more than 10 years of catalyst life-time
Feedstock Purification - H2S Removal
Zinc oxide sorbents: PSC, PSC-1, PSC-1E series
Application
The PSC zinc oxide sorbents are designed for removal of hydrogen sulfide and reactive organic sulfur compounds from hydrocarbons feedstock (natural gas, naphtha, LPG, others).
The PSC sorbents are used in the desulfurization system together with HDS or even without preceding hydrogenation step – in case of feedstocks with a relatively low content of organic sulfur compounds.
Characteristics
PSC series
PSC sorbent contains ZnO and hydrozincite. It requires a simple, short activation procedure by heating up of the bed to the temperature of 240–260 °C with a stream of natural gas or nitrogen. During this step, unique and very high specific surface area as well as increased porosity are formed which enable to achieve high sorption rate and sulfur capacity of the final sorbent.
PSC-1, PSC-1E series
For individual cases, when the activation procedure cannot be carried out, we offer sorbent containing only active ZnO, ready for operation just after loading into desulfurizer. The sorbents are supplied in the form of tablets (PSC-1) or extrudates (PSC-1E).
PSC | PSC-1 | PSC-1E | |
Composition | ZnO/Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6 | ZnO
Form | tablets | extrudates
Dimensions (D×H) [mm] | 8×4, 5×5 | 2 ÷ 4
Sorption capacity | up to 30 wt% S* |
Advantages
- high sorption efficiency and sharp sorption profile in desulfurizer
- high sorption capacity resulting from very high ZnO content and high grain porosity
- high mechanical strength, low dusting
- low and stable pressure drop during operation
- high flexibility to various feedstocks processing
Feedstock Purification – Ultrapurification
PSMC sorbent
Application
The PSMC copper-zinc oxide sorbent is designed for deep desulfurization process of the hydrocarbon feedstocks.
The PSMC sorbent is used as a complimentary to the PSC zinc oxide sorbent or independently in the desulfurization system to eliminate the risk of passing the residual sulfur compounds downstream when:
- the desulfurization system does not involve a HDS reactor;
- the concentration of sulfur compounds in the feedstock is too low to keep the HDS catalyst in an active sulfide form
Characteristics
Cu and ZnO are the active components of the sorbent. Thus, the activation procedure is necessary at the initial step of operation. The Cu/ZnO system acts both as a catalyst for the hydrogenation of stable organic sulfur compounds and as an effective sorbent of hydrogen sulfide.
PSMC | |
Composition | CuO/ZnO/Al2O3 |
Form | tablets |
Dimensions (D×H) [mm] | 8×4 , 5×5 |
Advantages
- effective desulfurization for a variable or small amount of sulfur compounds in the feedstock which precludes keeping the hydrogenation catalyst in the active sulfide form
- low operation temperature
- high mechanical strength, low dusting
- low and stable pressure drop during operation
Feedstock Purification - Chlorine Compounds Removal
PSN chloride guard
Application
The PSN sorbent is designed for a deep removal of HCl and other chlorine compounds from feedstocks.
The PSN sorbent can be used in the feedstock purification system together with HDS or independently to protect downstream sorbents/catalysts sensitive to chlorine compounds poisoning.
Characteristics
The active component of the PSN sorbent is NaOH supported on highly porous and high surface alumina. The PSN sorbent does not require any special activation before its operation.

Advantages
- high reactivity to chlorine compounds
- high mechanical strength, low dusting
- low and stable pressure drop during operation
